The Ingenious: Single-Player Travel Edition is a domino-style color tile puzzle game that packs 200 challenges into a slim, self-contained case. Designed by Reiner Knizia, it uses hexagonal tiles placed on a hexagonal grid, with four difficulty levels from green (easy) to red (expert). It's for solo players ages 8 and up, and the entire game stores neatly inside the plastic case — no setup required.

How Do the 200 Challenges Work?

You get 25 double-sided cards, each with four challenges. Early ones (green level) use 10 tiles; later cards introduce five additional blue-symbol tiles, making the puzzles more complex. Some spaces have question marks — you have to figure out the correct color yourself. Solutions for every challenge are printed in the rulebook, and the free Kosmos Helper App offers extra support.

What’s Inside the Case?

The compact plastic case holds everything: a pull-out drawer with 15 tiles, an upper tray for the 25 cards, and the rulebook at the bottom. There’s no mess, no loose parts. You can open it and play anywhere — on a plane, at a cafe, or during a commute.

Can You Play with a Friend?

This version is designed for solo play, but if you buy a second copy, you can race head-to-head against another player. No timer, no pressure — work at your own pace, skip a tough puzzle, and come back later.

Why the Difficulty Scales

Green-level challenges teach the basics: match each tile to its space by color and symbol. Yellow and orange add more tiles and mystery spaces. Red challenges require careful deduction, using the blue-symbol tiles that appear from card 3b onward. You'll progress naturally without feeling overwhelmed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many puzzles are included?

200 puzzles across 25 double-sided cards, with four challenges per card. Solutions are provided for all of them.

What if I get stuck on a challenge?

You can skip any challenge and return later. The rulebook includes full solutions, and the free Kosmos Helper App gives step-by-step guidance.

Is this the same as the original Ingenious board game?

It’s based on the award-winning Ingenious by Reiner Knizia, but adapted as a single-player travel game. The core tile-placement mechanic is the same, but the format is portable and self-contained.

What age is this suitable for?

Ages 8 and up. Small parts mean it’s not for children under 3 years (choking hazard).
